The Goal

I am an astronomy postdoc who plans to bike across America in Summer 2010.  At the same time, I want to do something good and contribute to astronomy education.

2009 was the international year of astronomy.  A group of astronomers, optical engineers, and science educators got together and designed a high-quality, low-cost telescope kit called Galileoscope.  There is a program to donate Galileoscopes to those who can't afford buying them.

The goal of writing this blog is to raise fund in order to 1) support my trip, and 2) donate the rest of the money to distribute Galileoscopes around the world.  The current plan is to finish the TransAmerica Trail (4253 miles) in only two months (July and August 2010).  I will carry a Galileoscope and constantly take pictures of the sky.  The rough idea is that people will donate money when I finish the trip.
